A pleasant family walk was had last Sunday through our local park, Dunwood in Shaw.
I’ve lived in Shaw most of my life and as a little girl was often found playing in Dunwood Park, going for walks with my Grandma and Grandad. Over the last 20 years I have lived virtually across the road, off Buckstones Road, Shaw, we have taken our son whilst young occasionally and the odd time as he got older, but I have to say not very often. Why???…. I can’t answer that question, maybe it lost it’s appeal and became neglected.
Well last Sunday was the first time for a long time and my goodness, I was surprised, in fact we all were, me, husband and son!
I felt a feeling of pride and joy that took me right back to my youth. The tennis courts where I used to play with my grandma are newly painted, a new pavillion, the play park where I spent endless days playing with my friends, running over to the corner shop for penny bubblies, that in recent times have been attracting groups of youths has been made into a lovely grassed area with benches to sit and ponder, with a smaller, young child play area.
Unfortunately, I missed the Centenary Celebrations in 2012, how that slipped by us I don’t know! I would have loved to have been part of it, but never mind, I will certainly make up for lost time now!!

There is an Easter Egg hunt Easter Sunday 1-3pm. My son is past that age now, but we will still go to watch and soak up the atmosphere.
Well done Shaw!!!!!
